LESSONS
Joel offers a variety of virtual or in-person private lesson options ranging from beginner instrumental technique to advanced composition and songwriting.
Beginner - Piano/Keyboard, Ukulele, Guitar, Bass, Drumset
As an elementary school general music teacher Joel has taught hundreds of students the basics of playing instruments. Learn beginner skills in performance including how to read, write, and interpret music on your instrument of choice. Joel draws from several pedagogical techniques to create a curriculum that is fun, active, inquiry-based, and student-driven. Work collaboratively to set goals, pick repertoire, and build a strong musical foundation. Come prepared to sing, improvise, analyze, and play. Beginner lessons can be one-on-one, two at a time, or small group.
Intermediate/Advanced - Composition, Songwriting, Electronic Music, and Music Theory
Joel will work one-on-one to help you find your creative voice. Receive in-depth feedback on music you’ve created in a supportive, encouraging environment. Learn how to notate, edit, and proofread your music while clarifying composition goals and premiere opportunities. Access to music notation software (such as Sibelius, Finale, or Noteflight), and music recording/production software (Logic, Ableton, ProTools, Soundtrap, Garageband) are recommended. Composition lessons are meant to be in addition to rather than instead of regular performance lessons on a primary instrument.
